Ecological & Social Justice
The purpose of our justice activities is to provide practical support for people in need, growth and development of our school community and to raise awareness of situations in which justice is not served.
Justice is at the heart of who we are and what we do as a school community at St Joseph’s College. It is a priority in pastoral care and is increasingly referenced in curriculum subjects. In addition, St Joseph’s College is committed to justice projects that work toward creating a better society for us all, and increase our awareness of our duty to protect our common home. We have three groups which focus on a range of justice projects, spanning years 7 to 12. These groups are committed to working to raise funds and awareness for CARITAS Australia, to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal, Sandhurst Switches Off, to collecting for Christmas hampers for the needy, the winter sleep-out for homelessness and a range of other initiatives.
Students have been involved in awareness raising activities related to the plight of asylum seekers and other members of society who are marginalised. Students and staff work in close cooperation with other schools in the Kildare Education Ministries network and with the Diocese of Sandhurst to enact socially just outcomes.
