We live in a world where takeaway food is becoming more and more popular and our health is suffering as a result of overconsumption. People are losing the skills to prepare nutritious family meals. At St. Josephs College, Echuca, we strive to teach students the basics of food preparation both for health and enjoyment.
Year 7s begin with a taste of foods, learning basic food preparation techniques and kitchen hygiene and safety. In later years students extend their knowledge of foods and their skills learning more about the food we eat.
V.C.E. Food Studies aims to; build on practical skills, apply principles of nutrition, develop informed food citizens, enable understanding of food origins, cultures and customs, and develop understanding of global and local systems of food production, distribution and governance.
