Justice In Motion

Years 9 and 10 JIM (Justice in Motion)

This group comprises students from years 9 and 10. The JIM Group focuses on a variety of social justice activities. They organise our Lenten Project Compassion and also organise the Vinnies Winter and Christmas appeals.

Students have the opportunity to participate in the St Vincent De Paul Society College Conference Day which includes guest speakers, forums and workshops for students to explore ways they can make a real difference in people’s lives and communities.

The Vinnies Winter Sleep Out is where students take on the challenge to experience what a typical night would be like for those who are homeless. Each year this activity is hosted by a secondary school in the Diocese of Sandhurst. They are given a cup of soup for dinner and a bread roll, then sleep on the ground outside. There are workshops for students to join which demonstrates what awareness needs to be raised and how they can help combat this issue.

Finally, the Justice Matters Camp develops and extends skills in leadership and initiative while providing the opportunity to meet other like minded youth from country Victoria and NSW who share a common goal, to work with social justice issues. This camp is two nights in Harrietville and is run by members of the Catholic Education Office in the Diocese.
